thanks for the prompt reply. I will start with checking the throttle cable tonight or tomorrow Wink

I bet you , like to offroad and or have lots of snow, in winter. ?
yes here in Canada we usually have quite a bit of snow. I like backroads but that will be for my 1994 Suzuki Sidekick.

First post here Wink
I have an 89 sidekick convertible.
I bought this truck in pieces and built it from the ground up. (see my 89 differences page)?
http://www.fixkick.com/specs/89-diffs.html

The engine runs and starts fine but idles at 3000rpm for 30 to 45 seconds and then the idle surges from 2300ish to 2500ish rpm.
the surge is the ECU hunting for 800 RPM hot. ISC is a servo device...(a loop)
The dash pot must retract, and no vacuum leaks. all air (vacuum leaks) cause racing idle on all TBI.

At 2500 Rpm the timing is at 18. (the distributor flyweights are flying out now, there is no way to stop that. except find and fix that gross air leak.)
simply said rule1 is failing, bad idle.

Compression shows 150 +/- 5 across. (new rings and cylinder was honed)
Vacuum lines are installed correctly.
MAP sensor was replaced (nothing changed) almost never fails but , hose fail, and clog and do the nipples ,end to end.
Plugs are new AC Delco gapped at spec .028"
Check engine light is not on (my guess sometimes yes and no ) due to below.
But in test mode (in fuse box) code blinks 2 then 2 pause then code 1 then 2 =12 (everything fine) and repeats code 12 but i don't see 22 again.
Code 22 is TPS voltage low (could this be my issue?)
22 means TPS calibration is wrong, most are in 89 as its a pain to set.

Thanks
Steven Richard

the fast idle is first. all else 2nd.
throttle cables (up to 3) all have 10mm slack? TV, 3speed kickdown, or cruise cables all same.
TV the under side gunk'ed up. blocking open the TV?
is engine still 89. that is the Throttle body ISC valve has 2 naked wires? (no built in connector on ISC as 91+ have)
vacuum leaks..
ISC stuck open (2wire sensor)
IAC stuck open (or water hose to it blocked, end to end)
Dash pot stuck open. (VSV to it failing)
then lots more harder to find air leaks, I can help.
idle switch failing. (just kills idle regulation, not screaming RPM.
the TB , has gasket that can crack and suck air.(mid body gasket)

the more hard part is testing IAC,
ISC can be tested with a blocking gasket. (take it off, make a sold gasket and no air can suck now)

or as some have, just someone, turn the idle stop screw 10 times CW. and TV is jammed open...

The TV stop screw is for IDLE duty cycle setting. (to 50%) 89-90 only.

cheers to you !
