CV shafts
#1
So, from past experience vehicles, there is a nut on the outboard end of the shaft and it had a divot punched in to keep it in place. But, i'm gathering there is a c clip somewhere on the shaft?

i looked at the fix-kick diagram and didn't even see a nut on the end of the shaft, also, don't remember there being one their either.

am i missing something?(about to tear it all down and find out anyways, but yeah)

yes, nvm... using the eyes and looking things over is always a good idea... no such nut, and i see where the snap ring goes.

all done. had binding in front end, was attributing it to CV, but, turned out being wheel bearing.

was that cv section added to the fixkick page recently?(have some pages archived from circa 2010-ish).

replaced CV on drivers side, have mile marker hubs i'm replacing my failed aisin hubs with, just had bearing pressed in today. That passengers side CV is a fun thing huh? take everything apart on that side.

popping bearing is a new thing to me, curious also as i have a spare hub i was having a bearing pressed into same day the wheel bearing failed. when preventative maintenance misses by one day. xD

been riding my bike to work/around, was dreading it at first. As it turns out, i ended up asking myself why i haven't been doing this all summer. aye, always next year.

thanks for the reply fixkick.

thanks, i'm working on replacing next to everything. whole front end will be new here before long(just balljoints/tie rod ends after this), going to try to get everything all put together before winter comes around. struts/shocks up next. i'm looking forward to the bolts on the rear....(have a friend with an oxy/acetylene torch however) Wink

yeah, national bearings, $55 i think is what i paid?? replaced the drivers side some months ago, but it was making a little noise.

oh yeah, neat trick to getting ball joints to pop out of a spindle. get a jack under the a-arm and lift it, then just hit the spindle with a good sized hammer right where the ball joint goes through, and it pops right out.

Big Grin thats funny, i'm in MI, probably one of the worst for the salt belt, that trick was actually taught to me by a mechanic in the area.

yeah, so that bearing, bone dry... really didn't look to be in bad shape but the cassette was done for. bone dry though. Going to be tearing down drivers side now as its been through a rainy season hopefully its still in good shape.
