the cap is located on the 12 to 15vdc battery power input mains, called IG-coil fuse ,
This is called, IGNITION power in the generic jargon.

that is an INPUT, power is INPUT To the ECU and runs (powers) all regulators on the ECU, the ECU runs off 5vdc not 12vdc so all ECUs have a regulator to achieve this, need.
the cap filters out all noise and damaging spikes to said regulators.
if not, the blow up.
most the regulators are not sold now, so you never want to blow one up.
a nice cap , seen on my caps page, does just that. from japan, not china with no "top brand" name on it.
yes, all first made 89s were made in JAPAN about April 89 the production shifted to CAMI. in Canada. when as did many parts, too. including cami made HVAC, system.

i THINK yours will run a long time, lacking the deep damage seen on so many.
