Ok so before I purchased a new tranny I got a stethoscope. Turns out it was the catalytic converter right next to the transfer case. So I replaced the cat and all is good.
Glad that worked out.
If you hear a noise check that your cat hasn't started to disintegrate.
Thanks

mine had the same thing, , the CAT itself had this shield with crack in the shield. (that made noise at odd times)
noise is a very complex thing on any machine and worse on machines that move.
saw one car do the same, and it was a harness clamp on the tranny box, that was undone a bit and the end of the clamp ONLY hit the body, in left turns and only under hard acceleration. took 3 guys on lift to find that, simulating driving and dragging brakes at the same time to simulate loads on the engine.
noise can be , very hard to find.
