Toyota with 4x4 here is always too big to run cheap for me. Their parts are also expensive. Buying parts from Japan is also expensive, like https://www.amayama.com/en
https://www.megazip.net and even https://partsouq.com/.

The prices at rockauto.com are acceptable, but the shipping is huge. However it is still cheaper than from https://www.amayama.com/en, https://www.megazip.net andeven https://partsouq.com/.
The thermostat and its seal have arrived without paying anymore tax!

Tomorrow I will install them. The question after installing the thermostat, do I need to use any sealant to put the thermostat hosing back or not???

Why attachment does not appear???

ok thermostat 101, on old cars.

first off the car has  a 2 piece thermostat,  the brass part, (metal) and surround rubber seal.
when the car was new, the thermostat fits with seal in a perfectly machine pocket (shelf) and no sealants ever used on this car , here, ever, in fact that be step3 and they wanted to skip that step in production (a goal for sure)
after 23 years go by and poor service of the cooling system the coolant goes bad,  and critical parts then CORRODE (rust)
what we do is LOOK first.  nobody knows what you will see in side your engine. ever. only you can do that.
when removed and you carefully inspect that thermostat rim if the rim looks like new, or like the MOON surface, then with the MOON condition I use sealant.

what type of sealant is your call.
what I say to my self is what sealant last and work and is not impossible to remover later , 7 years from now .
RTV works best but is crazy hard to  remove. later.

then real answer is LOOK first. look for DAMAGE working on old cars is all about Damage. and rust tops that list.

damage in the  STAT rim  on car, and damage on the HOUSING bottom surface,
the seal , works 2 ways here, to the side rim and to the top housing. both need to seal.

That is the Stant thermostat and its rubber seal from rockauto.com.
they all do. (but suzuki real PARTS)
the only differences is most make you buy the seal separate from the Thermostat.
one brand even uses custom seal, that only works on THEIR Thermostat.

ok good.

After installing the stant thermostat and the seal, I started the car and idle it for the operating temperature. I plugged the scan tool to view the data. Surprisingly, the coolant was 210F?? Why?
THE MANUAL ON THIS CAR TELLS YOU THAT IS NORMAL. RTM? J18 IS REVERSE FLOW COOLANT, THIS IS HOW IT WORKS, THERMOSTAT UP FRONT, ECT ON REAR OR HEAD RUNS HOTTER.

What I remember is I did install them correctly. The old thermostat is still work. Only the rubber seal was broken.

Does it has anything to do with the heater core because I did bypassing the heater core???

IF BYPASSED CORRECTLY THAT IS OK,  REPLACE CORE WITH HOSE AND OK, IF DONE OTHER WAYS (NO PHOTOS BY YOU) THAT CAN BE WRONG.
FOR SURE MESSING UP ANY OTHER HOSES OR COOLANT PIPES.

RE: Code for Sidekick Sport - rasmeidirt - 09-01-2019
YOU NEVER READ THE MANUAL,  IT TELLS YOU TEMPS RUN 215F OR A BIT MORE.
AGAIN THIS IS A REVERSE FLOW COOLANT SYSTEM UNLIKE THE G16.
Themermost is at the front of engine, in the pump housing and sucks cold water.
the ECT is on the rear of the head, NOT SAME place as thermostat so the ECT reads hotter than the themostat by DESIGN
please end the witch hunts on themostat, now.
It stamps 180F / 82C Thermostat only on the box. On the thermostat itself, it just reads 50MM. The old thermostat does not say anything either, it must be the aftermarket one as well.
Does the rockauto ship me the wrong thermostat??
People say only the OEM has stamp of the specific temperatures on their thermostats, the aftermarket ones do not, is it true??( no human on earth can answer how all thermostat are packaged or stamped, nobody can.)
I did install it correctly as you have described with bleed hole up top.
Regarding the bypassing the heater core, the hoses 25 and 26 become only one hose, connecting one end and the other end.
I CAN NOT SEE WHAT YOU DID LACKING PHOTOS !!!!

Is it wrong to do this??  if just hose replacing heater core, it is ok, if you did other bad things there blocking flow SURE THAT IS BAD.
People say bypassing the heater core takes away a small heat dissipation area. BS, you can hear people tell lies on the internet all day long. why ask this.?

Does it (tell what IT means) contribute to heating up to 210f in the view data of the scan tool??  the scan tool only reads the ECT is that your question?
Beside this, the car runs perfectly, smooth and quiet and also accelerate quickly!
gee some of these cars in horrible shape, even in limphome mode run great so means ZERO to me.(fixkick)

Poor rockauto Stant thermostat!!!!! They put the wrong temperature thermostat in the right box of Sidekick Sport!! Never again.

I bring the old thermostat to several local auto wrecking shops. They have many from Toyota and Korean vehicles. I pick up three from the Korean ones that look similar with 82C. I will test them with boiling water to find which one still work!

 BS, bull crap
those rockauto J18 themostat are good, it is you that is seriously confused. for  a fact.

your problem is not knowning how reverse flow cooling works and how to diagnose it,  your temp readings are now correct. but you fail to know facts.
