Which engine?

I have a 95 sidekick that I was towing down the highway in low range and blew a hole through the block. I had a shop drop in a used engine and my daughter has driven it for 10 years. Anyway, it started to slow down so I opened it up and found that the cam bearings were gone. The head is wrecked so I need to find the engine vin number for the replaced engine, or parts. Is there one on the block some where?

all you need is 8v or 16v head.
92-98 should work.
id bet the head , .050" main oil feed orifice, is plugged,, starving said bearings.
its a screw in orifice.

the engine has a serial number, but has year code and not 8v/16v codes, in the usa.
and worse yet is the Vin shows code 0 for both the 8v and 16v engines. biggest suzuki blunder of them all, that gets you the wrong parts everytime.
GM (Geo) got this right, with vin code, 6 and U, for engine vin codes. on dash.

you head sounds to me like a bad core too... will be rejected. i bet.

my head came with wrong intake studs in 2 places, too short. (there may be a 1998 diff, there) suzuki changed manifolds radically in 1998;
was easy fix.

11110-57b02 , from vin code R6400001~ that is year, R= 1994 so from here to 1998 all heads , IDENTICAL, 16v. IN japan actual this change happened in 1992.

i see the changes, new designed head bolts, and new distributor mount casing, changes.and new intake manifold.
finding 16v head bolts is a huge problem.. but suz, still sells them. and if found aftermarket, dont fit both heads.


finding a core head gets harder every day on these old cars.

my head builder, showed me secret head codes, on the left top rim of head, this tells the head builder, if head is a B00 head or B02.

mbplath, I had a similar issue posting pictures. I would make sure the image file you are trying to post is a .jpeg file extension, newer Windows and MS Paint try saving image file as .png as a default, check that. After I re-saved my files as .jpeg I was able to upload it onto the forum. Of course, see you don't exceed the size of file. Hope this helps.

yes, jpg is best. but not wall poster size, new real cameras have photos the size of a 16 foot garage door.. so resize to screen size. i use. 1024x768. pixel size.


A Nikon D5300 can do images at 23.8mBytes EACH.. 6000 x 4000 [L] pixels , Huge. and will not upload to any forum. all must be resized to 2mb limit. or set camera to Jpeg medium mode.
Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo ,can do 8meg pixels, now. can do 8megapixels, and 24mB files size each from a CEL phone. setting the CELL camera to 2mB fixes that. or run photoshop and rezise it.

5mb size but php limits it to 2mB max size. up load.

open your image in paint (right click open with + paint)

set resolution to 1024x768 or less H/Vert, check box, maintain aspect ratio. (missing old versions of windows) way to go MS !
and save-AS, and pick name.JPG file.

i wish you GREAT luck in finding a good affordable head.!!
and make sure that orifice can not get clogged. an oil pan full of filth can to that.
it's so tiny.
what can happen is the misuse of RTV in engines, if it gets sucked pass the oil pan screen, it can land in the head orifice. and bam , cam burned to crisp , fast as lightning.
i hate RTV, it's nasty stuff.. but the pan is glued on with it. and im sure very carefully in the factory. (oddly small RTV chunks are worse) if seen them in bearing shells........ not good.

that hole is 0.050" a very very tiny hole. seen many motorcycle engine cams burn up same way.
now why is it there? (IMO)
my guess?
is , if the cam did burn up,(by lonesome) the huge bearing gaps, (burned up) would cause a huge pressure drop in the system. causing the #4 rod bearing to glow red hot.
seen it. (#4 blue rod cap)
So the orifice is there to prevent a bad head from destroying a good engine block. best i can tell. and i find this stuff very interesting....
and to control rocker oiling max rates.

Here is the wrecked head, with several cam bearings gone. One of the valves is stuck open because the bearing tower is egged out and holding the valve open. It took me this long to figure out how to post the picture!

if the rod bearings are good.
then this is the 0.050 orifice clogged. did you look at it yet. its clogged. it is Allen key screwed in (metric for sure)
the orifice clogs and the head seizes.
caused by the filter going to bypass mode.
filter clogged?, and bypassed an then dumped its nasty load of crap up stairs.

id cut the filter top off, and look for filter overload.

or the head warped, and the oil feed at the orifice (left front side of block) failed, and let oil pressure to head top , go to zero.

did you run a straight edge on the block deck and head yet and use the .002" warp rule? .001 max warp per foot of head. (general guidelines)
any damage at the head gasket there at the orifice point?
