Manual steering rebuild & car pulls right - Billnot4power! - 12-22-2021 91 samurai 8v manual steering Completely stock aside from tires one size larger. Having two issues with the steering.. #1 recently a tooth broke off in the steering box and i opted for the rebuild kit from roadless gear. Great quality kit imo.. however now that the box is rebuilt the steering seems so tough like hard to turn? Its smooth in its function just tight. I checked the bearing preload as well as the top screw adjustment and it still makes little difference. Any ideas? #2 before the rebuild.. and still now.. the car seems to pull right while trying to drive straight. New steering dampener, new rag joint, rebuilt steering box, new leaf spring bushings, new bearings and kingpin kit. No loose or worn components in the rest of the suspension or steering. Braking does not make the car pull any more or less. Road surfaces dont seem to affect it much either and the car does not really want to wander (at least for 30 years old) Thanks in advance! (was the box in hand hard to turn steering input shaft?) but pull to right is steering alignment way off, for sure one side. wheel bearing drag front or rear or brake drag right side, front or rear bent frame but the alignment tests find that. RE: Manual steering rebuild & car pulls right - fixkick - 12-23-2021 for sure check brakes is most easy by hand feel bearings and brakes drag same time, and is is, remove drum or calipers to see what really drags, even loosen brake zerk to see if the brake line is under pressure and the cause. also rubber brake lines can crack in side and cause hyrda, lock. make sure too, (not the pull but in general) the rear piston rod on MC master cylinder has play there, or bad will happen brakes first, ok do full laser alignment checks in a real shop, with that setup., it finds them all. caster, camber, toe-in and Kingpin inclination. and 4corner laser checks for things bent, end to end. I didnt think at first.. used to non adjustable sealed bearings. Ill check that and go over the brakes again. Ill try that before the $ spent on alignment and yes the box i was able to turn by hand.. i also checked the other components in the car without the box attached and its deff the box. I contacted roadless gear to se what they think. thank you!! |
