Pag oil, type & amount
#14
Well, this is what I now know. Yesterday I finally got some time to R&R the a/c components. I read in my FSM how to remove the condenser but the opening in the front was so small after I removed the center brace that I decided to go a different route. I have an electric rad fan so I can easily pull it in under 10 minutes. I removed refrigerant lines, the electrical connections, the passenger side rad support ( condenser was bolted to it) and the remaining condenser bolts on the other side. It lifted right out and the new one went straight in without damaging the delicate fins in the new part.
With the rad out, there is plenty of room to easily R&R the compressor. When I removed the old one on the bottom of it and out of sight was the holy grail...The info tag! The FSM is correct as capacity is 90cc and it uses ND-8 (pag 46). I priced that ND oil and it is hella expensive. I drained the old compressor to see how much oil was in it and it had 60cc.
I drained the new one of the shipping oil and went with 4oz of oil which is .6 of an oz more than the 3.4 that the FSM lists as the system capacity. I pulled the system for 1 1/2 hours and I am now waiting to see if I have any leaks before I put in the refrigerant.
By hand spinning the old compressor verses the new compressor there was a big difference in the tightness of it. The new one shot oil way in the air while the old one spit out a small amount. I guess the seals were worn out in the old one. The oil that was drained from it didn't have any shaving or broken bits.
I will post back when all is buttoned up and the system is charged.
