Fuel rail firewall side leaking gas?
#31
YES, there are many types of solder, (huge).
soft and hard
the soft solders are now lead free. Soft tin based,
the hard solders are copper and 40% silver, and needs red hot temps to use. but is super strong.

so the soft is best. the diaphram will get hot and melt inside, and so the solder job must be 100% but the steel case will not like solder of any kinds.
so that needs to be cleaned off (cad plated or zinc i dont know), then using special flux for bare steel, fluxed then soldered.
just like old fashion brass radiators were done.
its just an option. any shop that does welding , can do this. most have torch and a rack full of every type of rod.
or any old rad shop can do this with soft solder.
you could use epoxy. but many are NOT fuel safe.
and in the same vain, needs to be cleaned of all plating first. and rough'd up with 100 grit sand paper, to give the epoxy some BITE, as its called.
whatever, you do it must now be 100% gas leak free, or you put your self in danger.

gasoline is a complex compound that has parts that destroy most things.
the product what ever, must be listed, Fuel safe. or it will fail.

option 2
cut the chamber in half. top to bottom , and gut it. spring ,seat and diaphragm (and learn whats in one,for fun)
then have any weld shop braze/TIG/MIG , the old seat closed. ,all steps are like 5 min, to cut, 5min to weld, 10 mins, total, its nothing.. for any shop to do this,
but do not take it in smelling of gas, get it 100% gas free, or they will not touch it. clean with soapy water and then bake it dry in an oven.
id bake it for 30min at 150f, no one wants a gas fire.

end of damper, you now have just a BANGO bolt.

all these words, make it clear that most folks never do this, we replace bad parts. fixing it , is impossible .

JB Weld? Is it the same I used with the IM EGR ports when I drilled them to clean the carbon? That I have and can be done today? The precaution would be avoiding steep hills and sudden accelerations right? Well, it will come handy for my case, as I keep telling wife to ease up on hard acceleration!! Lol.

Let me know.

First off this is not an EGR valve, why do you mention Apples for Oranges. This is a high pressure gasoline Valve, not and EGR.

JBWELD is crap. (no spec, no search box, they do not spec the product at all, just wild general useless claims.) sorry, it is no better that some , dime store glue. (Walmart, Kmart, or at Dollar Store)

try real product with a full product data sheet for applications, and limits. this works with fuel and 200F temps. so beats the hell out of any JBjunk.

JB has no spec, no search, no data sheets and not ISO testing, nothing but Marketing BS. IMO

they make a fortune and have this weak page ? odd huh?

Cut thru?

I used color dashed lines for you to let me know. You think JB Weld won't work as a temp fix? That is the one that can have the car running tomorrow until I get the part?

i'd take the rolled rim there, see that?, its roll crimped in the factory.
so grind the rim off and it pops open.
and get it welded.
(this word means real weld, not JB BS weld. it means brazing , TIG or MIG or STICK weld)

its fuel, ever watch or try to same some one in a fuel fire?

it's at 60PSI too, not like some gravity feed lawnmower.
respect it. and live.

see that rim, use a hack saw (after backing it dry) and cut the top off above the rim.
then gut it and weld it. or gut it and use real EPOXY, never JBnonweld , ever.

Understood. Tight schedule here and was thinking of the fastest way. Of course welders, 1 on every corner. Have you used JB before? Maybe your thoughts come bad experience?
Ill have that in mind. Ill keep you posted.

Did not see your post on the Loctite. That will be. I had already JB from previous use( EGR). Yes I know what EGR is. Like I told you, Im trying to use what is available, but yes JB lacks a strong data sheet as where Locite does not. Ill get it tonight and work on this. Thanks for your input though. If I find it here. Walmart carries it but not at the store I go to. Homedepot no go so far. Sad(

again the EGR is not a fuel valve.
you think all things are like toys? all glues work on all things. sorry not.

id not glue it , not me. its your car , and you and your wifes life.

JB is toy grade product,
if it works ok, count yourself lucky, i see many posts on many forms that it failed with fuel, so.... what do you expect. given hard facts, no spec,.etc.
one other product that might work? , if you have auto stores there
is gas tank mender.
now that is fuel safe.
some are epoxy putty and are fuel safe.
Most folks would never try to hack fuel pressure systems. I'd not. I'd rent a car first. but that is me.. you only get one life. etc.

keep in mind we need fuel safe under pressure, and is very unique. not some lawn mower with a weak ass gravity feed.

options better than death
car pool
use second car. bike or motor cycle.
have wife drop you off , in second car (share a car)
rent a car.
Barrow one from family.

all beat death or total loss of a car.

I appreciate your concern, but I have not even use it on this. The EGR was an example and I d know the application is different. I'll keep you posted from earth not heaven.

Cheers!!

keep in mind, using epoxy will not like dirt. oil, grease , gas, or other contaminants.
if the metal had gas stains, it will not stick to the plating or the metal may be weak and fail to bond.
if you do use epoxy sand the surface well and clean it with brake cleaner or carb cleaner so it is pristine clean.
then epoxy it.
I guess youve never seen a gas fire.

just from gravity feed, not 60PSI EFI

and right next to IT, is the Dizzy cap, sparking away like mad.
