TPS reading with pedal to the metal...
#1
fixkick,

I took a reading as you suggested with the key in accessory position and the pedal to the metal. The TPS topped out at 71. A second reading gave 65.

Is this normal or is this tps getting old? Should it be going to 100?

thanks,

tps? that is throttle angle it only needs to move with foot, it is NOT CALIBRATED at all , TP side, Angle side.
the ECU watches aNGLE RATES, THAT IS , it see how FAST you move foot not depth of angle, you can watch the TPS keyon, and engine off> do so see full rage, say 10 to 80 % but is not important , it only must from lowish to high. that is it. and be 1:1 with foot movement, no drop outs.

71 is ok, if the Butterfly is 100% open 71 is aok for TPS. The TPS IS not calibrated.
only the TPS idle switch is tricky and calibrated to n'th degree.
keep in mind the MAF rules the roost here, the TPS is only for (hey ,ECU driver moved foot fast, he demands enrich mode)
the TPS is not used for fueling volumes by angle at all, unless in limphome.

it is just emulating the old CARB part called the high speed accelerator pump. fast foot device. that is it.
but at full open it does cut the EGR, for sure.
also keep in mind the ECU when you boot up , learns the TPS angles. and just compensates.
in fact the very new cars, use the TP only TPS and learns what angle is idle and then creates in memory a virtual TP idle switch in software. free, and 1 less pin.
