Sorry for the delay but my shop burned up last Wednesday and have been dealing with the cleanup. See the attached photo of the ecu and let me know what you think. Just to clarify there are no wires going to the egr valve. Thanks in advance!

gosh so sorry to hear that, what a travesty. !
nice photo and in car, too. very good.

that 58b30 is clear
but the xxx-MT what is xxx (county for sure but what?)_
53s. is FED ECU. that xxx is, i bet FED-MT (many are marked, US-MT this means its for both calif and FED, 1992 was the first year for Calif suzuki's

here are the USA pages
http://www.fixkick.com/ECU/EPC-ECU96-98/...9-95NA.pdf

the Fed ECU , the best i can tell is only 53s, means its bad.
the FED ecu has no way to connect to a CALIF EGR.
53s are the most poorly documented feature at suzuki
i think it means the memory is corrupted, (or even bad CAPS , its crashing)

all is right here, i see no errors by PO. no wrong parts.
your good
id now put in all new caps. ( 2 of them)
and look for acid damage. below caps.
see red dots
C103 is prime to change.

see my horror slide show. same.
http://www.fixkick.com/ECU/hell/html/index.html

the acid needs to be neutralized first. with baking soda.
or it will eat the copper traces off the PCB.
bad news. and 53s.
the bad cap allows the regulator to drop out and memory fails, this can cause 53s.
i think the ECU does a self check , check sum (CS) and if it adds wrong, bam 53.s
and dirty power is my first check. C103

Thanks !!! I will pull it and check tonight. I will try to pick up the caps on my way home. What is a good budget minded soldering iron to change these?

My local electronics shop is telling me because they dont have 50-63v caps that 100v will be fine. What are your thoughts? I have been reading your ecu repair page and am still unsure. I will clean the board with baking soda to prevent further damage and use a solder vac.

it's ok.
greater voltage ok
min, uf
and lowest ESR.
+85C rated.

the uf accuracy is +80 -20% , when you measure new ones, the will be way high. (than side stamp) for uF.

the new caps will be even better that the old rubys.

yours got rubies? rubycons?

all rubies fail. no 96 and above do
and the only ruby i saw that was good, just once was , one packed for 20 years (NOS). on a shelf. new ECU. they were good.
my guess is they don't like heat.

some have volcano's on the side, funny to see.
many just blast out the bottom, plug. the acid.

I will take pics when I get it apart. Thanks for all of the help!. My shop fire could have been worse and I am glad I had all of my expensive tools stored in my garage. Just burned up a bunch of crap. I feel very lucky!!! Now hopefully this ecu is repairable lol

Got it out carefully and wouldnt ya know..... C103 was dry and coming apart. The local shop that has the caps has repaired quite a few of these and will do it for $15-20 even if he has to go deeper into it. So I hope this works because it has started running worse
