Remove the locking washers from the wheel studs
#1
Hi there

I planed to work on my brakes the other day, and when I got to rear brakes, after removing the wheels , there are so called "locking washers" on the studs.

How do you remove these? I kinda tried to force them a bit, but they do damage the studs. So put the wheels back till i figure it out.

I am sure it something simple.

Thanks

sure, i bet they brakes are still day one original. amazing huh.
those are stud , drum keepers, it keep the drums from falling off. (92 and newer)

this I think are just for easy to manufacting of car, keeps drums from falling off , on assembly lines.
they only go on, but break coming off, (1/2 or more the time)
i throw them away., the wheel keeps the drums fast.
the are flat spring clips. large version of the clips that hold on body emblems.

1991 , has center bolts yours does not.

Hey
That's is what I was thinking. I will try to pry them with a screwdriver and pliers.

in this picture you have only 4 studs, as far as know they are 5. is this an older model?

Thanks again.

My Jeep JK had the same, I just used cutting pliers, cut them in a couple of spots and removed them.
