stinkie 91 8v exhaust stinky
#1
I've always smelled the exhaust but lately it really bad. NO CODES (12,12,12 only) CEL proves out on key on, then NEVER ON, CAR RUN PERFECT..
if I have the roof down its really BAD..any ideas? clothes pin on nose? corks in nose?
I wonder if the cat is bad or even guts in there?? hahaha

yes, the old ECU can be happy when all is bad. sadly. the old ECU have poor (1) monitors.

sure it can run perfect do you know that 12.5:1 AFR RICH HAS MORE POWER THAN STOCK (14.7:1 )
THE CAT IS DEAD TOO,
IF THE ENGINE IS too rich the cat will overheat. if replaced.
if its rich at idle we can test to see if the 02 sensor is working at idle
it swings from .2 to .8vdc. fast, like 3 to 6 times a second. this is called cross counting, or CLOSED LOOP, if no exhaust leaks and it crosscounts, the new cat will clean up all the remaining richness.

there is on scan tools sold but there is hacker tool. just 1. to see if ECU is happy. (near free tool, just a cable and level shifter)
See all 31 PIDS below.

31 params here
see param 11. and LTFT #13 , fuel trim, tell lots about fuel trim if 02 is new.

rhino says out of stoock.. new one soon.. i wonder how much it is (WAS) i want one!
have you used it??

no maf , that is correct, the 91 is map based air flow, (+IAT) that uses manifold vacuum to calculate air flows.
yes, we can see all sensors with the scan tool per that link, the FSM shows the same data. same 32 params (or pids)
yes, you can check the sensors 1 by with ohms or or volts.
the TPS output is about 1v at idle, and 4v WOT.
the ECT reads about 300 ohms hot, (hot engine, unplug it measure sensor ohms) see same page for IAT.

The MAP reads like this. 1.2vdc at idle

the 02 is near impossible to read with DMM as it changes too fast. (faster is better and new sensors do that)
my guess is yours will be stuck low. If yes, it will be very rich. the 0BD1 does that and is worse than OBD2,

a really fast and good dmm might get the MIN/MAX right. some DMM are slow, most cheap ones slower.

sorry out of stock, what i'd do, is prepay him so he's motivated , grin........

if keeping a pre 96 Track-KICK, HIS cable is good to have.
it's free software.

i think the Rhino cables were like 30 bucks??, nothing outrageous. (it's mostly just labor to make the cable, the level shifter is nothing expensive)
his is the best way: see photos here.

in 2007 i got mine to work in the bench like this. crude but works. and no software, only manual typing commands with REALTERM.exe

for sure having a scan tool is a blessing, tells you what the ECU SEES !
