1989 Escudo ECU 33920-60A51 Replacement
#1
I have a 1989 Escudo M/T imported from Japan. The ECU 33920-60A51 is completely burnt. Am in need of a replacement. If I cant get a -60A51, will a -60A32 work(1989 Sidekick M/T)?

in what country? (you)
in to uSA, how? The car is JDM, and are illegal here.
but those numbers are hard to decode,

a32 is MT. (buy one and try it? )
a51? gwad knows.

here are ours IN USA
the books only do USA and canada here,

http://www.fixkick.com/ECU/EPC-ECU96-98/...9-95NA.pdf

SOME JDM
have no O2 sensors, no EGR.
and if you use ours, lacking all that, all that fails.

see all these wires
ours (this is how it works if your has different distributor as many countries use, no joy)

thanks for response.
I am in St Vincent and the Grenadines in the Caribbean. We import cars from all markets in world. there is no government restrictions on markets. only regulation is special levy on cars that are 10yrs and older when imported.

this is the vehicle tag:

Suzuki Motor Corporation Ltd. Japan
Type:E-TOA1W
Chassis #:TOA1W-806307
Engine:G16A-5990cc
Color:38B
SHXJ-X
engine #SadJapanese lang)

this is the ECU#:
33920-60A51
E2T40572
9529A A1
JPN-MT

this a a brief description:
Suzuki Escudo
yr 1989
RHD
EPI
MT
4WD
2dr(3dr)

You are so correct. those caps do explode. exploded and even burnt through the pcb and destroyed other components around the area.

ok not in EU not in USA</CANADA not in SA (south amer)
many island suzuki are JDMs.
yes they love to blow up, damage minor to huge. even carbon black HUGE PITS. of damage.
sorry for your lost BTW.
all you can do is buy one try it.
that tag smacks of JDM . the book on it is in pure Japanese, impossible to read. the parts for it are only in JAPAN.
the problem is that 60A ecu is comon on all 89s, that suffix means 89.98
the last 2 numbers are tricky, Suzuki did not document them well , at all. (out side japan, and our books are only for all cars 55 markets but not japan called JDM)
like I said the JDMs some have no , 02 sensor, (adds, a CO tuning resistor block) no EGR, no CAT.
why not look for those 3 things,?
if missing I call those JDM slicks, (as in devoid of smog controls, slick) like gun ship, no guns. slick. mil jokes, sorry.

the other thing is see if all the wires on the ecu are present. against the schematic i posted above,(USA spec)

the code JPN-MT , tells you its for JAPAN smog regs 1989. what that means only someone there can answer. A51 codes.

even the ECU pin connectors can be different. type and size and pin count..

buy one , fingers in ear and pray
A31 form USA/or Canada./? or even Europe.
up in canada, lots of Axx variants, non in the parts list. its suzuki secret then, and worse now. long forgotten.
id try a a31 ,
i see one ecu sold in russia a51, and looks just like ours, in the steel box. and green connector 1. other is cream,

thanks again for your advice.
I did some inspection and guess what, there is O2 SENSOR, EGR and CAT on my escudo.
the connectors on the ecu are the same color, cream and green and the wires on the are present against the schematic you posted,(USA spec.).
will surely buy one of the USA ECU and give it a try.
will also let you know if it works.

thanks again

good news, our ECU might work.

I hope it does, some go for $100 used, pig in a poke sack . (as is)
and $400 pro rebuilds seen here (not the seller this, its the plant that does it then actual car stores sell them)

click 89
https://www.cardone.com/find-parts/vehic...&year=1989

then pick a31 or a32 , both are for MT, one is calif other is federal usa. (no idea which) the difference is EGR type.

here is search for this rebuild Pro grade

Hi its me again.
Bought a -60A32. Running it for a week now. No problems. Working perfectly.
So I think we can say -60A32 and probably -60A31 is match for -60A51.

Thanks for your guidance.

that is really great news
Im so glad you found a good ECU.

my guess the old one had a bad igniter driver transistor in the ECU
so new coil is a good idea as , to protect the ECU.
cheers and happy trails.
