what works so far.
#1
i had no power going uphill, still don't but i got it to idle by disconnecting vac line to pressure regulator now it idles and i can give it gas and it doesn't die when i relase the gas pedal.i pushed the egr valve in while the kick was running and it did not affect it in the least,i am thinking something is plugged. i disconnected the cat and it didn't help. it starts right up after it cranks once and it has fresh gas and the old plugs are black which usually means running rich so i will change them next. i guess these 1.6 liter 16 valve engines are touchy.Confused

you need a signature, or a profile
we can not guess what car you have like this.
how many miles on it.
when did it last run as daily driver, if parked in barn, how many years, there. sitting? if true, of course.
read all your posts now. please correct any errors i made below.
virtual signature:
93 sidekick 1.6L 16valves, 4door, 4wd, 4 speed a/t,
regardless, the 16v is unique, its mAF based engine, and the maf need to work or power will limited.
dropping that vacuum line, puts fuel pressure the the max.
but to measure fuel pressure, you need the rail adaptor or the harborfrieght, fuel guage kit that fits on the filter, is the filter new>? if not , well there you good, a tuneup part, bad.

its not touchy, all MPI engines like this one work same way, even 40million Corolla's, that way.
This car is 1990s car, my guess.
and back then the PCM (EFI brain) does not have a fuel pressure sensor, like all new cars here have. (it cant tell you errors)
so the PCM can not know its wrong, pressure ever, so the mech must check that first,
and then the MAF sensor pressure, next if fuel is ok.
in my fixkick page type in the search box "pump". with no quotes.
if parked for ages , the injectors will be a mess, (can be as the old fuel turns to gum)

here is the key to engine power on G16b.
engine good, 180psi compression easy.
spark good, (cap/rotor./hf wires/ plugs and gapped to .028" never gapped them to .045 or at makers setting that is wrong, for sure. new.
fuel pressure good. (FPR good + pump good)
injectors not clogged.
MAF working, type maf in my fixkick.com search box, and MAF page shows all ways to test it, with volt meter is super easy to do.

lost or first.
does the ECU on this car blink code 12 on demand, type CEL in the search box same place above. 12 means , OK. (ok means only no gross errors, form sensors)

got it i think. by the way it is a manual trans and the no.4 exhaust runner is cracked i think that might affect the running.

then click the box that on bottom, says, enable my signature on all posts

they all crack, never seen one not crack #4
limphome over heats it and bam.

the 16Valve has 2 exh manifold;
short and long
my buy page, hard to buy page covers all that to the nth degree/
see that? fixkick.com

posting photos here is easy , see gallery above, add photo, then link it , in any post.

so car is 1993 , G16b 16v, m/t 5sp stick, some doors? , 4wd? or 2wd,
if i dont know what car you have , my answer will be wrong 50% of the time.
4door cars have totally unique harness. and guess what, GROUNDS, and you have bad grounds, so....

is this barn find? seem yes, bad fuel
injectors clogged, and filter. and vacuum tricks on the FPR , tends to hide the real problem , seen many like this.

my bad, you have profile, gee, that is even better, shockingly better
when was the last time car was good running daily driver, was it parked for a long time/??? key facts here.

working on a 93 suzuki side kick with a 1.6 liter 16 valve engine 4 door 4wd.
the timing belt was changed 20,000 miles ago,
they did a partial tuneup, needs plugs, has a cracked exhaust manifold
.no power going uphill, fine on flats. cleaned egr helped a little, still idles low (how low, 400 rpm>?)
. no lights inside
,no tail lights,
fuses test ok. this car is making me go gray.
test to a tech means meter, tests. ohms or live volts on both ends 12v and 12v is good fuse key on
fuses that look bad are
fuse that look ok can in fact be bad, called hair line cracks.... use the DMM meter and do not guess, on fuse.

we can fix it one prob at a time.
best is one post for whole car so we see related issues, one post with all the bad news, is best for me...
the dome lamp has its own ground
so when you turn it on and the lamp tests good before, it glows. due only 3 facts
dome fuse reads 12v both sides, and 12vdc in to the dome base.
and the dome lamp base is screwed to the body, not using super glue,LOL,,,,
then the switch the switch closes, and the dome glows, works just like a flash lite , if it had a fuse.
best practices, is to keep meter on DC volts, connect black test lead to main battery neg lug, (long jumper clips leads best)
then use the red test lead to find the loss of 12vdc to the lamp
if the lamp base measure 12vdc then the lamp base is not grounded, killing it dead 100%
even in door mode

OFF ---DOORS ---- ON..
it must work in "ON" mode or its a very simple problem

Did someone let the fuel go bad in the tank,,,,yes/no????
if yes, then the injectors will nasty gummy. the injectors have 10micron screens inside, 4 time smaller than rear filter.
if the injectors are clean, then your fuel pressure is wrong.

please know the pressure can fail many ways
too low or none
too high
and no regulation

fuel pressure spec, is here seen on my pump page and FPR page
gage at harborfreight is $20
9 tests only 7 you can do.. and more for injector balance testing, same tool
one poor guy hear, all 4 injectors clogged, 1/2 way, and made the balance test loo, ok, not fun that.
how did we solve that, (no scan tools for 93) was prooving all ecu inputs ok and injector pulse ok and fuel pressure ok.
bam injectors
pressure at gage
key on 3 times, pressure 36-43psi, high end is sealevel end... low on mt, everest>
key off it holds for 1/3 min.
idle 30-37 ( if 43 above, 37 now, dig?)
gun engine, parked, to 3000 rpm just floor it for 1 second.
the FPR will try hard to hit key on pressure above, if not FPR is toasted or vacuum missing to it
