i am working on my neighbors sidekick it is a 4 door 16valve engine it has sat for awhile(4 yrs). i got it running but not very well. it has no power going uphill, plenty on the flats. did a compression test and it had 120 on no.1,90 on no.2 100 on no.e and 120 on no.4 these were all dry tests on a cold engine with the throttle wide open and all the plugs out. the plugs were black so i will probably change them payday. i cleaned out the catylaytic converter with a 1/2 inch pipe and the muffler is fairly new along with a fuel filter and cap and rotor and wires. once i get it running good i will worry about thedash lights and dome lights and the radio. the timming belt was changed about a month before it died. it is difficult to get parts and info on these vehicles the cover for my fuse box inside is missing and i haven't found any of these car in the wrecking yards around here.Dodgy

btw your cam slipped. time.
bad belt, if tested wide open throttle and at 3000 ft, altitude, (your IP shows that level)

never seen this,
never see hard to buy parts there
http://fixkick.com/
never seen the books page
or on this forum the welcome page, for books.
what dash lamps.
cluster background lamps is on a dimmer.
warning lamps all dead , key on?
CEL lamp glows
dome is missing dome fuse.
the dome fuse need to be inplace or the ECU can not store, DTC errors
the dome fues is ECU memory power, it need to be put back
my fuse page covers all fuse.
its there.

parts, well most the 3000 parts on car are not sold , after market.
sure some are, even at the only suzuki , shown on my parts pages, shows links to the last 2 suzuki stores.
it drive line parts that can be hard to get.
but why worry that until you need a part, there is no cure for worry, ( I did and sold all mine, all 4)

if you have massive failure of the cluster that is a fuse blown, easy no?
if the guages work you have power
so say exactly what is bad
id pay zero attention to other saying we replaced, X , Y or Z
zero
what year car, which engine G16a, G16b J18,?
sitting for 4 year, the injectors will be clogged, in part. and power will suffer.
your compression is 88psi low. at 3000ft. so.... are you sure you did this wide open throttle, and warm and let the needle peak.???????\
why did it sit for 4 years, my guess it died, right???????
what will be ,will be.
seen many belts put on wrong
or done so not checking for striped crank key.
oop. 1000 belts can fix that,

lucky you the 16v , the belt goes on, with no valve adjusters set loose.. the J18 has a chain, so....
but lash, would be checked, every 60,000 or you may burn the valves up.

is this the 1993 G16b car posted by you under other name>
if yes, it needs a belt.
or the crank cog is wrecked as many are and then put in a barn for you to find (or me)

the first step on all G16
is to grab a 17mm deep walls socket and make the front crank pulley (clockwise) set to 94/ft/lbs (new spec, from 1996)
avoiding this horror. if found loose you have this horror.

sparks are $1.49 NGK no need for $15 magic plugs, they are wrong and a waste ON THIS engine.
use NGK OEM standard plugs. and gap them, to hood spec.
no engine stated, nor year.
cant really wax smart not knowing sidkick or sidekick sport.

barn finds are hard to fix.
gas tank gunk
fuel pump gunk,
injector gunked up
crank snout mangled
and more
most have at least 10 horrors, I never expect less.
not for 93 cars, be same on 93 Corolla. same problems same reasons.

ok
back to car
its a barn find.
all barn finds have 2 issues,
all the missing tuneups never done ever.
and damage from bad fuel.
all MPI engine suffer this, if car was 1987 the carb would need total overhaul.... for the same reasons. BAD FUEL.
in a reals shop , they would clean the whole fuel system out. first. so there is HOPE.
make sure the tank is not full of rust, (hopeless case 2)
and pro clean the injectors at $22 each,'

Just helped a guy in Nepal, same thing bad fuel. the PO stuffed bamboo slivers in FPR guts, to get it to run huge fuel pressures 50psi , to hide the bad, clogged injectors. (hacks we call this)
he replace vast parts, to no avail. (spent a small fortune, all a waste)
then when the slivers removed (i found that) and pressure back to stock , we see injectors pulses are ok but not fuel , bingo, clogged 1/2 way injectors.
the spec pressure is here
http://www.fixkick.com/INJECTORS/PUMP/16...ess95W.jpg

keyon about 36 psi
idle about 20,
wide open throttle would get near 36( min)
that changes is all FPR caused, and for sure VACuum did that.
this must work correct. or all hope for MPI to work is lost. ......

You cleaned out the catalytic converter with a 1/2 pipe? What is the point of that?
No wonder the car is screwed up.

thought the exhaust was plugged so i was told to rod out the cat since we live out in the country anyway. it didn't help. found out the egr valve was plugged, cleaned it out with a small screwdriver and carb cleaner. it idles now. i have to fix the cracked exhaust manifold next. the only suzuki in the wrecking yards around here are suzuki cars no sidekicks. should i buy a new catalytic converter?
