the smog guy may not even notice the OD flashing
1992 cars do not glows CEL on TCM errors ever. (this happened in 1997 up)

OD, ask them if the OD can be flashing, nah dont they might look it up and go, thanks we forgot that.
fun and games. cat and mouse.

the hard part after the CEL check and fuel tank pressure test, is SNIFF SNIFF
here is the sniff failure page

see the 95 here , the limits are there.

OK the snow has melted and it isn't even raining today. My "new" ECU is here as well. I switched out the ECU. The old one was a 59B30. As expected, wrong ECU. I guess I could keep it as an emergency backup ECU to get me home.

I started it up. CEL stayed off. Starts smoother, less...abrupt? 75% less smoke at startup, too. Drove it around the neighborhood, including hills. O/D light stayed off too!

Took it to emissions. Passed! DMV registered and all legit!

I'm stoked to have solved basically 3 of my problems by putting the right ECU in it!!

Thank you to everyone and esp. fixkick for helping out the new guy!

If you were determined enough to work on your car while it was freezing outside, I knew you would be able to solve it.
