Bad ECU 1.6 8v 1990.
#5
Ok,, it is a real Vitara, and with VIN number? or chassis tag numbers, showing this fact, and was never ever was in the USA
reason being, our cars have a NAG lamp function that causes CEL to stick on. barring that odd USA federal feature.
you don't have that, USA setup. so....
A french suzuki is market
So that CEL stuck on , with the diagnostic jumper inserted (where did you find yours?)
then the CEL wires is shorted to the body or ECU is bad. (or the diagnostic wires cut)
so if you unplug the ECU, green connector, and THEN key on, is the CEL glowing still? (this is in the factory manual of off all vitara's)
If lamp goes OUT now. Lamp and wires are ok. there.

but if lamp goes on, key ON now, then that wire is shorted to the chassis ground.
see?
where was your DLC ?, how many pins. does it have. 4 or 6 (or a fuse)
are you sure the pins were jumper-ed correctly, matching the 3 systems used,? (2 pin fuse, 4pin battery, 6 pin near battery) which was it?

the 1st ecu test, is make sure 5vdc arrives a the TPS sensor. at ECU A23 or TPS gray-red this is 5v power, if below 4.75v tell me.
see pin B13, that is the CEL pin.
Pin a15 is the real diagnostic pin, see that?, and if grounded the CEL must flash or the ECU is bad.
the CEL will flash codes key on, or running,.

my guess the CEL lamp is on but does not flash.(yet) this lamp on means the ECU knows whats wrong, so we ask it to report this.
so that means to insert the diagnostic jumper. (a paper clip (metal only unpainted)
into the cars DLC socket, also called, the Monitor connector?
This jumper can be in 2 places.
1: the fuse box above left knee (if not UK car RHD)
2: the front of battery see that here.

my guess, see this red car body here. see that connector in front of battery?

jump B to C. and see the CEL lamp flash ERROR codes. 12 = good, others all bad.

No works. CEL light not blinking.
