motor stumbles after it warms up
#11
there are a huge number of G13 heads, G13a, b, ab, bb (one is a twin cam)
each cylinder in G16 is 400cc.
the G13 is 75cc less, at 325 cc per cyl
if you ram 400cc slugs of air into any 1.3 head, the compression ratio will be crazy high. at the least huge detonation or the need for RACING FUEL 115 octane.
if it fit at all.

The engine clearly has G16 casting marks in the casting

here is the 91, block, TBI G16a
see the top left there.
11am here.
see that.

no mixing up G16 with G13
the serial number is ( see that bell boss at 9am the top of that is stamped, the engine serial.
G13yxxxxxx
G16yxxxxxx
y = year, in usa.
xxxxxx is serial, its clear as day what engine block is there, in TWO places.
head codes are vastly more complex.

So the block in this Samurai is definitely "SERIAL code" marked as a G13F-xxxxxx. ECU 89-90 controlling only the TBI.

I checked the timing a few days ago and it was right at 8 BTDC, but I didn't rev the engine to check advance - I'll redo that check.

...and I'll try to jump the a15 pin at the ECU to see if I can get a code. -- tomorrow

I dug into the wiring some today. The A15 and A9 pins on the ECU are vacant (no wires attached). I grounded the A15 pin with no change to the glowing CEL (key on, engine not running). I'll need to find the blue/yellow wire for A15 and Violet for A9 to see if completing those circuits (with A15 grounded) will trigger the flash codes. - next time I have a chance to mess with it.

60A31
DLC wires, missing, does the harness match the ECU,that is harnness came from 60A31, car with 60a31 ECU? OR is harness trail tuff or right? custom harness, notorious for missing wires?
80C is sammi.1990-95
60a is first G16a, Sidekick/tracker/Vitara ECU. 1989/90 only. 56B is 1991, upgrade year, here, in USA.

the USA 60a below is wired like this, all are on the G16, the G13 sidekick is only a carb with modulated carb-ecm (is not EFI , carb has fuel rated modulated solenoid, wierdness)
this is simplified drawing, the wire colors for DLC are unchanged, mostly, a19/A9

my pdf has all pages, on 89/90
keep in mind, trackers books call pin A , B, and reverse, A1 = B1, but all else is same, just the A/B swap.
this doc, is heavy commented for the tricky parts of the 60A ECU.
there are 2 sets, of schematics there, page 9+ second set by Suzuki.

http://www.fixkick.com/ECU/89/1990-scan-...lpages.pdf

some of the DLC pins are input, and some output, do not ground outputs if any ECU, or BOOM. or hot wire, them 2x boom.
note that outputs here by GM are shown as switches, inside ECU, those are Transistors. in fact. (collectors, in most cases)
page 9 shows test connector, this IS DLC. some books call it the monitor connector.
the words diag connector F/B means fuse block.
The real DLC was in the front harness in front of the car battery. and this car, has 1 extra wire to the fuse block, F/B fuse "Diag"

Blue-yellow is diag. the CEL must flash, in DIAG mode, (if and only if the NAG switch is removed from the speedo cluster back side (4pin,3wires) or wires cut to it. The nag needs to be removed
so that CEL always works correctly, meaning flashes on DEMAND, its a key part of diagnosis...
I think this year , there is no "serial data" pin, aka. suzuki SD , aka. ALDL pin, so only flash codes work here and not the Tech2, scan tool. making pin 15, super important pin.

The GM name for pin is C2-15 in page one.

here is my DTC page.
unified.. I added the Europe, codes for IMMO there.
http://www.fixkick.com/ECU/DTC-errors/DTC-jtgh.html

the things that cause limphome, are here, most cause EFI to slam rich ! this ecu since it cant retard spark in limhome , may (?) go richer..

http://www.fixkick.com/ECU/LimpHome/failsafe.html

if say the map goes dead, the ecu must now simpulate a map. (it does so, extremely crudely and very rich)

the nag switch in not on CALIF cars, or other countries. ever. just USA FED cars.

The ecu can also get lost. (cant control fuel rates correctly, = lost)
this is caused by 02 not holding closed loop when it must.

Runs to rich REVIEW: (fuel pressure at spec, is always 1st)
I forgot to tell you test# 1.
PIN A23 must be +5vdc (-+0.25v) must or ecu bad or pin a23 is shorted out to ground, or worse. 12v. this is 5v power out to sensors. this dies all sensors die. that use it.
Seen many ECU with this blown up, inside ECU, due to someone hot wiring this pin to 12v or the bad guy hot wiring 5vdc sensors to 12v , not knowing the damage this does....a $400 error.
COMMON complaints: EFI: early 1990s .
in many cases, the ECU flashes, code 12s, all day, and is misfiring and running rich.. (this is like the oldest story of all, and so common, (due to limphome)
this is par for the course on OBD1.
In that, the ECU can not see weak sensors only dead ones (EGR excepted)
keep in mind some countries run NO EGR or have the tests turned off, seen that. outside USA. (no code 51 countries)

In this case, we then start measuring the sensors, running to find the weak cats. (pussy cats)
For example the 02 sensor has near by exhaust leaks. the 02 oxygen sensor pin is now stuck at 0 volts, will cause problems on all EFI cars, but this year car, worse.
MAP hose clogged, or cracked, in almost all cases MAP never fails, (unless smashed by engine swaps) the hoses, well they clog or leak.

ECT reads wrong, 300 ohm hot, is what it must be, not 100 not 500. 300. (or near) 180F = 300 ohms. hot.
IAT must work too, and match same ohms of ECT on and over night dead cold engine, (super easy test, unplug them, ohm it out) see they are equal....(overnight , am checks )
In most cases if the ECu likes the TPS, the TPS is ok, (except at tip in throttle acceleration hesitations that self cure, that is recover if you go 1 potato 2, pot...., )
there are other inputs to the ecu, some are IDLE up, pins, these do not cause rich ever. just 1000 rpm or near)
that is about it.

In 1996 the USA fed. EPA, OBD2, laws, reduced the FAILSAFE (LIMP) mode richness, to a far lower amount and also reduces the 02 sensors, authority.
this means if the 02 lies , the rich trim results, is not so bad , that it burns the CAT TO A CRISP now. like yours will. oldest story #2.
This same rich condition also loves to pack the EGR path solid in pure carbon... un corrected. and smog tests fail. for NOX. oldest story #3

hope this helps. you. and others....
sure wish I knew why your , pins are missing wires. how ODD that....

1985 engines. F code engine
is that
so that is G13F a G13, with wrong TBI and wrong, ECU.
and is a sammi engine, with I guess a orig. sammi 8v G13 head. (or with newest G13 head, with newest distributor, the DIZZY has pn/ on the side that i can tell you what it came off of)ask.
but must have TBI off what? last years sammi up to 95 or manifold off G16 TBI 89-95? sidekicks or trackers??

ECU is for sure G16 and is TBI and we know 89/90 Sidekick or Tracker, its for sure not off any SAMMI
Since the harness at ECU is wrong, Ive no clue what it can be..
the first 89s, were made in iwata, then the production (usa./canada) moved to CAMI canada., some changes happened then , no idea what. (lots of parts are now usa./canada made)
in fact mine was painted in GM chevy corvette red, day 1. in CAMI.

some have the fuse box diag fuse
others do not, depends on GEO/SUZ name and year,
there no years with the harness to ECU missing a15 pin, never seen it or heard it ever.

I bet your car has harness issues, seems so...
I think the ECU that is mapped (AIR ?FUEL) tables, my have great difficulty using, 300cc LESS displacement.
id have used a 1995 Sammuri, ecu on a G13, engine. so the fuel tables match.
idle will work i bet.
but driving, car, the vacuum readings will not match 1.6L , so all map readings are wrong to the ECU. causing Chaos.
if the car had a maf sensor this would work.
like we do mixing J18./20 engines, and ECU.
but MAP engines, are very fussy on vacuum, "Speed density "systems ALL ARE THAT. for sure accelerating it will get confused,

the ecu needs to match engine in car, for sure displacement. (TBI)

more data. i have all p./n world wide on these
DIZZY p/n suffix , stamped on side of all suzuki Dizzy's
60A10 carb only, same with a60
60a20 m/t tbi
60a40 a/t tbi.
1991 dizzy HERE, has 56bxx stamp. means has CMP inside now.. and no more, centrifugal or vacuum advance, now.
ECU-0---------------------------
the 60a means G16 and is only seen on SE416 bodies, (sidekick/tracker/vitara's , sunrunners, or Santana's) 89/91 worldwide, but 89/90 in USA. main land , not possessions. of usa.
I could not find A31, in the data base but we know that there are smog regions that have odd Axx numbers, and are on some suzuki secret list, (missing in parts book normal) A31, A3 id say means M/t and the "1" means special smog rules, from xxxx country. xxxx unknown by me.

60A10 m/t tbi 89
60a20, a/t tbi 89
60a32, mt all years, 88/91 (90 use max)
a42, a/t
a80, market e16, and 10 more, markets. world wide.
a70 , market e22, Germany.
-------------------sammi------G13 only--------
80c30, 90-93
81c30 , 94/95

in 1991 , all our ECUs for TGI are 56Bxx here, in USA.
all are. all are G16 we do not have SE413 that use any 56bxx ecu, only SE416s use that ecu. or the 60a.

56b means ECU now does all spark all by self. no more standalone spark used. now runs spark tables, and burns less fuel, and less smog. (and more power, due to prefect matching spark at ALL TIMES)

harnesses 60a.
there are.
only 7 main harnesses, , and only 4 for 90 year (through fire wall main)
the IP harness (ecu) has 4 harnesses for 60a car. (my guess is you have not one of these 6 harness or was molested?)
the engine harness , just 1, for 60a.

the IP harness, ecu. is (harness suffixes)
a00 89.jx
a40, 89jlx
a70, 90 jx, jx
a80, 90.jlx
each of the 4 has pin A15 wired. for sure.

are you running this
Trail tuff harness
seen here.
http://www.trailtough.com/index.php?page...&Itemid=53
they have a (restricted) web site that does NOT document what they sell, just some vague OBD2 warnings, (horrors) and the red tag deal>?
The do that to keep the hacks a secret and no copy cats, (clones of their work) but really Id never ever, pay them to hack up my good harness, ever. for sure with no drawings sent up front.
it is stock harness conversion. They take yours and cut it up.

i guess some folks hate extra copper?, in a harness, seen that said . it's kinda odd that.... (extreme CG lowering OCD?)
why not just use what works perfect, a stock harness.
im told they delete pins and use non coax wire, where they are badly needed and for sure had that stock, (like cmp, ckp, and 02 are)
The also need VSS to work, if not the ECU will not be happy, if you look the FSM clearly stated VSS bad , limphome.
VSS tells the ecu your speed and lets the ECU compute LOAD< lacking this feature, (sensor) it will never run right.
do not delete sensors.
I have seen many post on this, where pins are missing, and worse. using custom harnesses.
If someone wants to know what each removed wire does, ,ask.... its well known.

cheers !!!
