Fuel gage sending unit... - cosmic_splatter - 08-20-2014

Anyone have a brand/part number of fuel gauge sending unit that will fit a 95 tracker? Nobody locally has anything that matches. The dorman product part number 692-019 says it will fix your fuel gage readings, but this is an error. It's actually the tree that holds the fuel pump in place.

I've matched the part to this samarai part, but not sure if it's compatible. I'm reading about 3 ohms full, 122 ohms empty. My part isn't bad yet, but it's very corroded.

Suzuki part number - 3481080700

This seems to be a custom sensor as the newer units use 240-33ohms.

smp? no,
Dorman.? , no, only the rack they have.
suzuki sells it, right?
doormans cat calls it a fuel sending unit, no its a fuel pump rack.

watch out for 2 tanks, 4door and 2 door, both have different racks (pump) but the sender i can check. easy

did you check my fuel gauge page.
see gen1 ,gen2 and 3 comments.
gen one is 1 to 127 ohms per the FSM. (i showed tolerance error there)
89 to 95
and this TSB on 96 and up covers the variances starting in 1996 but not OHMS.

i do not know why you are looking in SAMMI direction? just hope ? for cheap parts? not sure.
in 1996 to 1997 the E20 sensors is 1 ohms tolerance, very accurate to do the EVAP tests,, because the tanks must be 3/4 full or less. and that makes this mandatory, EVAP 2 rules.
so if it fits, its more accurate.
new to old

the correct pn is 34810-60a11 and fits only SE series cars never SY sammi, SE means vitara, sidekick ad tracker, sunrunners, sanatana's all are kicks
and i cant think of anything off any sammi that fits this car, but that would take weeks of F6 searches no 1500 parts.

now ill look up this i 80700 num. ,ok that is only a SJ sammi fit, (the tanks have different depth)
the sammi ohms is 1 to 117 so light on the empty side. but would work ok , just ohms
but fit and float reach, ive no idea.

65 bucks at Suz

Thanks fixkick for helping here, I thought all those vehicles were the same. I'm new to all this! Smile I cancelled my order and re-ordered 34810-60a11, since that looks correct for 2 door. The tsb shows another part num...

I measured my resistances at 3 ohm full and 120ohm empty. I'm hoping I don't need the one in the tsb showing 34810-70E10 or the 20 or 30??

It has a black connector.

RE: Fuel gage sending unit... - fixkick - 08-20-2014

the sender is downward compat but using old on new EVAP2 cars may cause EVAP2 pressure tests to fail, DTCs. on that.

your correct sender is 89 to 95 , suzuki, tracker, vitara. (note that TSB page)
if you find a 96+ sender , id measure it first (not ohms but ) all physical things. the parts cats do not tell you if the sizes are differ. only that they are diffr, some way. I think the new senders only have a new color code. The TSB implies that.

these parts are hard to find, and i don't see any aftermarket maker making them.... (so few left on the road)
i added your photo. thanks.!

Here is a pic of the top of the tank. Mid year 95 build....

Is the hose coming out of the fuel pump tree a standard part? Its threaded into the output of the fuel pump on one side and has a banjo fitting for a fuel filter on the other. Is this something the local autoparts store can match up? Mine doesn't look bad, but the short 1.5-2" exposed metal piece at the screw in side is pretty rusty.

RE: Fuel gage sending unit... - fixkick - 08-21-2014

nice photo, i want it
no standard parts (EFI) there, all 100% Suzuki. the odd parts are BANJO fittings. in usa it be inches, this is metric, end to end.

those are all custom high pressure rated EFI , 100pSi lines, the pump can hit 60 easy with a clogged filter. or more. some can do 75, so the lines all are rated that high.

fuel pressure side not return not vents, those are another matter

on the just get some phosphoric acid in a bottle
brush it on, and it turns the rust to phosphate oxide, (like a primer)
ever do that?
the jug is sold at home depot.
http://www.amazon.com/Barr-GKPA30220-Phosphoric-Prep-Gallon/dp/B000RGHUDC

then paint it (if you desire) with fuel proof paint
duplicolor sells this
as does all hobby stores that sell fuel proof, model aircraft that uses a gas engine (nitromethane proof too boot !) ive flew them for years.

all that there, looks superfficial to me. use the phosphate, treatment.
also sold $$$ at
eastwood

some epoxy paints are resistant, not proof, most others are useless,
Google Klass Kote

http://www.nelsonhobby.com/hobby_paint.php

it can be hard to find due to EPA new shipping regs,
but there is good fuel proof paint. i keep , around all the time.

here is the acid test for fuel proof

when new those parts are steel alodized.

here is what factory coatings look like
it is weak, for salty, dirt and mud, born water.
