Tackling the shift lever plastic pieces.... - cosmic_splatter - 08-13-2014

Tonight I tackled the shifter collar and ball end collar.

Here are some photos of the project...

New Parts arrived....

Removal of both shift and emergency brake consoles....

Per FSM, spin the collar 1/4 turn and the shift lever pops right out. Very easy actually....

Showing wear of the collar here...

Showing wear of the shift end collar....

End piece wear can be seen. Ball protrudes on worn part. Not horrible but all loose play adds up!

It really did tighten up the tranny shifting. Luckily my parts were not cracked or broken into pieces. The new parts seem to be 1/2 plastic and 1/2 rubber. Interesting material.

I'm not certain what lubricates this area. Does anyone know if oil comes up from the tranny to provide lube to this area? There was oil laying down in the shift ball collar.

Fixkick, please feel free to use/share/re-publish any photos others may find helpful.

very nice, clear , sharp,
good quesiton, the only lube is your grease used.
this are is not fed from main box, GL4 lube at all.
some folks tried to fill tranny from there and got a big suprise.

your going to love the new fresh shift pattern.
