Distributor Installation - rupal - 03-09-2014 Hi, I have a Vitara with a G16B 16v engine. I have the timing belt perfectly timed... Depending on wether i have Cyl #4 at TDC on Compression Stroke Or Exhaust Sroke, what position should the dizzy be at, when i install the distributor ? Thanks in advance. RE: Distributor Installation - gorkyb - 03-09-2014 1) crank shaft gear pointing at zero degrees (like when you are putting on the timing belt) 2) cam shaft gear with the E on the outer edge pointing at 6 o'clock, this is cylinder 1 firing. Do not be confused thinking the cam shaft gear with the E pointing at 12 o'clock is cylinder 1 firing, it is not; that is cylinder 4 firing. 3) now you drop in the distributor in a way that when the distributor gear lands into the camshaft gears the rotor tip points at where spark plug wire going to cylinder 1 would be, which is around 1 o'clock on the distributor. I point the tip of the rotor close to the HV post on the distributor and then drop the dizzy in, that makes it land close to 1 o'clock. 4) then make sure your wires are in the right firing order, 1,3,4,2 RE: Distributor Installation - fixkick - 03-09-2014 x2 above and. dizzy times to #1 firing. the 16v turns CCW. at dizzy, rotor only fits 1 saw. if not, fail. see graphic at bottom of page. http://www.fixkick.com/IGN_timing/16v-procedure.html |
