Back cam shaft cap oil leak - gorkyb - 03-02-2014

Hello! so after I did some work on my Tracker which required me to take off the cam shaft, it is now all back together and running but it is leaking oil from the camshaft cap all the way in the back (number 6??? i think it is)

I followed the RTV (Permatex oil proof/sensor safe) step on this website and on the FSM.

My guess is I didn't put enough or tighten it too much before the RTV set down and squeezed it all out. Anyway...now I have to fix this. Do I have to take out the whole camshaft again? or can I just take out this cam shaft cap and reset it down with new RTV?

in thing the torque is 88 INCH lbs and that inside RTV is very thin , like .001" under torque, it should not leak.
sure its not the dizzy or dizzy housing
the 16v cam dizzy housing is RTV'd too...... do you need exact? info on that?

#6 off by self, should be ok.
we only have this,doc.

I RTV'd the housing of the dizzy too! I wasn't sure where exactly so I did all edges. I will make a video of the leak and post it on youtube. It's right by the valve cover so I figured it's the cam cap, but I'll check again and make the video.

Could it be bad RTV also? I had it in my shed and with the single digits temperature this winter I don't think it did it any good. I bought a fresh tube yesterday since I ran out anyway.

pdf page 23, drawing 47 zone A
the whole thing always works as you did. zone a is the rocker shaft, leak prevention.

I guess I could have put a little more RTV there.

pcv valve blocked , dirty?
o-ring on rear of rocker shaft gone or bad. would force oil up to dizzy and leak.

i dont think its the RTV there, just the smallest amount there, and it spreads wide and flat under the perfectly machined surface.

When you say rocket shaft o-ring you mean the large o ring on the distributor housing?

Speaking of oil, can someone recommend a good and cheap oil pressure gauge? nothing electric, something I can just mount where the oil pressure sender should be.

no rocker not rocket, lol.
chapter 6E
http://www.acksfaq.com/96-FSM-v1-6A-pdf.htm
pdf page. 18
figure 30
o-ring 6080

any will work, i use a 60 psi, screw in for testing. only.
or for dash?
if for dash , any will work,. mine has copper lines. and yes, to sender hole.
no plastic lines , they are near exhaust manifold and is hopeless there.

=D sorry, rocker, well, I resealed it yesterday and let it set for more than 24 hours, car is running now, no leaks so far. I'll keep checking if leak comes back I'll check the rest.

i know how that is, i hate leaks too, some can be very hard to find....
i wish you well and great running.
