Another question.

Do you have any experience with lifting sidekicks? I have a '96 4-door Automatic Sidekick. I picked up a 1.9TD from a '96 Jetta, and I was hoping to make the swap using an Acme kit.

It will be a daily driver, with occasional off-roading and towing. The diff is 5.125:1 right now, but I do have a 2-door '95 16V with 4.3:1. Even if I was able to swap in the 4.3:1, I calculated that I would still need 32"-33" tires to get close to the stock gearing of the jetta.

From what I've read the Jetta had a 3.157:1 diff. If I could get something between that and my 4.3:1 then I could hopefully get away with a little less body lift and smaller tires. Otherwise I don't see how I could go with anything less than 6" (3" suspension/3" body) and 33's unless I wanted to be a slug on the highway. The sidekicks seem to have a fairly high center of gravity already too.

Have you heard of any gears available between the 3.157:1 and 4.3:1?

the axles match the tranny, (and rpm of gas engine (fast on this small 1.6))

here is the world wide list

jack ups can be easy or hard. higher harder.
U-joint issues?
any linkage from body to frame parts and drive line father below, can be a problem.

what cool project, a 1.9TD kick...

I've heard of people using the front diff. gears from a sidekick in a samurai. Are the gears in the front and rear different sizes?

Would sammy R&P's work in a sidekick?

RE: Lifts - fixkick - 01-18-2014

same
or bad happens. they are linked with a ratio of 1:1 front to rear., of not 1:1, skid city
yes many sammi are just bodies,
all parts bolted on, non sammi.
fun to watch.. love it.

Here's an example of a few threads that I've come across that say only the front diff gears in a sidekick will work in a samurai:
