groaning..rubbing sound in steering wheel/column?? - barnbiketom - 12-29-2013

i'm gettin a sound/feel kinda like a dry rubber groan when turning the wheel ESPECIALLY left, and it's not under the car but rather inside it and I've sprayed lube onto and into the colum at the bottom outside in the engine compartment where the shaft exits and no good. still noise.
any thoughts before i attack this??

91 is easy car,and runs great in snow,if stuck, lightly drag the foot brake and get free LSD...... works like magic.
if any tire spins do that. lots of fun.

not much can go wrong in 91 steering. (loved my 91 2door)
1: horn slider loose. combo switch loose, neither are a danger.
2: steering lock latch needs lube? sticking. ( dangerous.)
3: my plastic surround shell was assemble wrong (me) and was dragging, remove it , drag gone?

My steering wheel made noise, so I took the cover off and put a very small amount of grease on the sliding copper traces (I think it was the traces. It's been a while). Now it's nice and quiet. You just need to be careful that you don't disrupt the conductivity of the sliders.
