WOW!
Having a be-osh of a time trying to find GL4 Gear Lube to top up my tranny!!! Anybody have a lead on where to buy in Canada, or US for that matter?

RE: 89 Clutch Replacement - fixkick - 10-16-2018

pennziol syncromesh?
GL5 can work if the additive in it does not wreck the yellow metal(as they say) (brass) parts inside the box.
the bottle of lube must be marked, safe for manual syncromesh transmission.

some newer boxes (my jeep) has carbon rings inside and can use GL5 SYN.
almost all cars sold now are autos.
so many automotive parts stores, don't sell manual trans lube. (precious shelf space for snake oil, endless now)

nice find, you are so lucky to find it.
many stores have none.
and is needed too in the transfer case.

in use NAPA has it and if out of stock can get it in hours from other napa stores, call a head and they can get it for you.

Okay, finally all back together. Clutch is silky smooth and disengages/engages at about 1/4 of the way into the pedal push. Thanks for excellent instructions on proper cable adjustment. Checked 1" fixkick rule at bell and everything okee dokee.

Noticed some metallic grinding now on accelerator lift-off and coasting in 3rd, 4th and I think, 5th. I recall hearing this before also so it's not a result of the clutch change.
Haven't been able to verify how it sounds in 4wd yet because I hadn't been able to top up the front diff until last nite (had to incline the vehicle to 30degrees -which is a LOT- so the pinion bearing doesn't starve. This is due to my 3" suspension lift. Got it to 25 degrees max which I hope is enough) Noticed the gear lube was darker and murkier than the transfer case and tranny fluids and had quite a bit of metal fines in the gear lube I emptied out of the front diff when I pulled it to get at my oil pan. I think I was only able to get the incline up to 20 degrees though when I filled it last time about 4 years ago.

Leaving with it for a 10 day hunt trip tomorrow. I'll check in after the trip on how it performed.

congratulations a hunt ready kick,!! have fun!!!
in gear grinding?,sounds, just lifting foot off throttle. but not in neutral, I'd day, bad Ujoints. (hope it is, most cheap fix)
coasting implies neutral, or foot planted on clutch pedal, my guess is in gear acceleration? grind sounds? (flat and on down hills)

also thanks so very much for sharing your photos. others will love this addition.

So happy to report that the clutch worked flawlessly, even when loaded with a fat mule buck on the trunk. Took me awhile to adapt to the change in pedal travel. Gears are shifting much smoother, likely also in part due to cleaning and lubrication of rails and bottom of shift lever ball, etc.
Cab also smells better since degreasing of tranny and repair of tears in shifting boots with Shoe Goo. I'm sure the deer still smell me from 1/4 mile away though.
Drivetrain growl is still there and I have a new issue of engine revving to about 4000rpm on start-up (esp. when cold) since I did tranny re and re but I'll open those issues up on separate threads.

Thanks for excellent advice.
