!.6 16v in a Samurai - jd hogg - 06-12-2018

Man I love Suzuki's!! I have owned a boat load of Sidekicks,Trackers and Samurais and even bought a XL7 new in 03. I have always been amazed reading the fixkick pages, what knowledge. I now own two Samurai's one is complete with a 1.6 16v (1996 motor) I sent the harness to Trail Tough for modification. This one has factory AC and hear lies the problem and question. Anyone know how I can get the motor to idle up with the AC on? Anyway I can fool the computer by using the power steering idle up wire? The harness is bare bones piggy backed into the old Samurai harness. THANKS jd hogg

sure
the ECU on all suzuki. have idle up pin, every one, 1989 to 1998 for sure.
RPM is 1000 RPM.
the 1996 is no exception, but the trail tuff harness forgot to wire this pin, as many do.... after all AC on offroad cars are removed, to as not to overheat the engine, crawling...
if you read the AC chapter in the free book on post 1.
it shows you the AMP module for the AC as an output pin called idle up to the 96 ECU

yes 1 wire. if you need more help ask.

THANKS fixkick I will see what I can do with it. I have the 16v in my other one, installing a under dash AC in it so just maybe I can get them both to idle up.

RE: !.6 16v in a Samurai - fixkick - 06-13-2018

the ecu schmatic and the AC amp are clear here is the AC amp.
AMP means AC logic module.
when you turn the AC to on, and the fan blows the AMP sees that (logic) and set idle up wire to true status.

pin 1 on 98 amp

as you can see the ECU for the A/T and MT are not the same.
if not idea what ECU you have. (p/n)

the 4speed uses diffr pin than the 3speed trans.
pin 5 versas 9 but same color.

see ecu pin 1 here.

the other idle up pin is PS overload wire, jam steering in to stops and bam idle up. pin 19 on ECU, same 96 drawing above. is PS idle.

Thanks again for all your help fixkick. Have one more trip to Nashville in the Little Debbie truck today then get the Harley out for vacaction . We are headed up north to St.Paul will see what I can do with it when we get back home. The 1.6 16v is a great little engine but man they are getting harder and harder to find. The first one I bought had a cracked head the second a cracked block. It was cracked from where the main bearing laid clear to the sleeves, in all the motors I have rebuilt through the years it was the first I have seen. I have read lots of your pages ,always a great help!!! Thanks again for all you do for us Suzuki fans!!!

took me 3 months ,10 years ago ., to find 3 motors. I posted wtb ON CRAIGS,
FOUND 3, all were "I think it's good", and all 3 bad.. but one of the 3 and only 1 has block that was not cracked.
lucky me....
every one had spun bearings, bad cranks, or cracked blocks and heads.

i can buy cranks and can get them ground cheap.
but i can not fix a cracked block. (not mains)

have a great trip !
