RE: Assembly help - fixkick - 03-07-2018

ear = EGR?
this is easy, if not Calif, nothing is easy there, why I left there 28 years ago.
only thing that matters is the ECU partnumber.
the calif EGR has thermoprobe (thermistor) device, the federal does not, but the Calif fits federal and works same just no harness wire there to fit the probe.
the Federal EGR fitted to calif ECU cases code 51 and code 53 error, 53 means the thermoprobe is missing or unplugged, or bad.

glove tag code NB2 or 6 is calif car so it was sold a FED car for sure not CALIF.
my guess is they put a old Calif EGR there and bashed off the sensor to fool some smog dues or fear. (fear is ok)

but to be sure only the ECU model matters
if someone change it the hood tag is now lies.

ecu 70EA0, calif
ecu 58b90 ,calif

ecu 58b30 or 40 is fed
just 3 examples
all are here

RE: Assembly help - Soupir - 03-08-2018

So here is the ecu number
33920-70EBO so what egr valve does a guy order? Sorry just really confused. Here is the link to Rock Auto. Can u specify which one is the correct one. Thanks
https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/geo,1995,tracker,1.6l+l4,1142266,exhaust+&+emission,egr+valve,4968

RE: Assembly help - fixkick - 03-08-2018

clearly 95, car. and ECU for sure. its actually a CAL/FED car that year.
70EBO

sorry i got confused, car is 95, too many cars , helping same time.
so the EGRT connector is there for sure on all 95, in the USA the FED and CALIF parts merged to one car, it is how what I call CAL/FED car and EGR 2.

here it is. using your link , see....
rockauto
the first one listed lacks a EGRT view. skip
next is correct. as are all but the first correct and all 3 are missing the sensor but is threaded for it clear as day.
the EGR is sold seperate

https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/geo,1995,tracker,1.6l+l4,1142266,exhaust+&+emission,exhaust+gas+temperature+(egt)+sensor,17051

not cheap.

this makes the ECU that uses this sensor happy,
one can fool it too. easy.

Dear fix-kick

Please help!!!! 95 geo tracker 1.6. 16 valve engine rebuilt and installed back in the car. Timing set per your pages, compression good 150 all 4 cylinders new fuel filter. Spark good runs on test fuel like a dream. When turning key on u can hear fuel pump run primes up then shuts off turn the key further and engine fires up and then runs for 2-3 seconds and dies. Checked codes and only get 12 code had to flip the nag switch and got the dtc jumper on still no codes other than 12. I purchased a noid test kit from harbor freight and get no pulse light or light at all upon key turn on. Timing light show near zero when running on test fuel. What next.? The engine ran fine prior to rebuild and can not figure out what to do next. I don't want to start throwing parts at it oh yea egr valve moves with hand vacum and fuel pressure regulator is new and have done test and appears to be working. I am thinking I am missing some simple fix or at least I hope!

RE: Assembly help - fixkick - 04-11-2018

the injectors not firing.
only question is why.
did you crank for 5 full seconds with the diag jumper in place, release key then see code 42,41, or 21,22 ? (keep in mind 21 is reverse of 12, can be easy to be fooled with that japan silliness idea)
I think the ECU thinks there is no spark , but spark is ok, and runs on test fuel as you said, see #1

1: the tiny Ignition suppressor. fell off? its just this tiny plug in the harness. code 41, after 5 full seconds of cranking,
2: RPM gauge there, does needle move to (0.3)a tiny bit engine cranked? (evens sparkplugs out for faster RPM ) code 41 again, if tacho is 100% dead, can be hard to see need move 0.3.yes.
3: TPS stuck at WOT, The TP pin goes to 5v, if the TPS ground is broken,(or TPS cracked in half) and it will never inject , like this, this is called magic, unflood mode in the ECU (my name)
4: injector harness below intake not seated.
5: 12vdc not making it to the injectors key on. (fuse) see #4 we know FI fuse is ok because ECU has power,. code 12, takes power.

see suppressor here. and TPS.

the 96 and up suppressor is here. (my be lower on 95 , near the left drivers (LHD USA) strut front. harness.

measure voltage on TPS pin 3

cranking for 5 seconds, is the key to seeing all codes. on a dead engine. (dead injections)
for sure. crank release key dont turn off for say 2 minutes
see of codes other than 12 roll out, also many codes can roll out , and no 12s in the set.
codes means DTC errors.

RE: Assembly help - fixkick - 04-11-2018

if the ecu falsely thinks (brown wire wrong) that spark is bad , the ECU cuts all fuel.
same with TPS pin 3 at 5v or even 3.5, cranked. pin 3 is about 1v cranked. foot off the throttle.

RE: Assembly help - fixkick - 04-11-2018

make sure all grounds are good. in the bay, engine bay.
there are many, and many are all for the ECU.
if the ecu cant see the TPS go to 1v, due to open ground wire, oops. no fueling.

RE: Assembly help - Soupir - 04-12-2018

So I checked all grounds good, harness good. Cranking for 5 seconds no codes other than 12. My mistake earlier I was able to get power at injector using dvm and key on. I tried to test tsp pin 3 never did see 5v only just shy of 1v cranking. the noise suppressor was plugged in and taped like it should so i started unplugging sensors. Unplugged tps no change still starts and dies plugged it back in then unplugged maf sensor and bingo engine fires up idles fine revs up fine. Plug back in maf sensor and immediately dies. I get code 22 when maf disconnected. Any ideas? Is this sensor bad or is it the tps bad confused on which one if the maf that's not cheap or what should I do next?

RE: Assembly help - Soupir - 04-13-2018

Problem solved maf was dirty cleaned it and she runs beautiful..... So far! I can't thank u enough for all your help. Happy wheeling.
Tony

RE: Assembly help - fixkick - 04-13-2018

and way less that $1000 for a new one.
cheers to you and that.
happy trails

code 22 DTC means the TPS need calibrating. (it may be just glitch , one time shows and goes away)
