trying to remove the steering bar (inside the cabin) - john110 - 06-05-2017

I removed the locking bolt (engine side)..... I want to remove the steering bar as I want to lift the cabin and move it to be able to build a new floor. it's also the only way to be able to do a great job or working on the frame.

I took a big hammer and a steal bar and began to hammer it from the engine bay side.. I dont want to break anything. my guess is that there,s probably rust that tight the two parts together.

Am I missing something or it's probably just rust and I got to keep using the hammer ?!!

parts of the seering wheel are still in place on the engine bay side.

I hope to be able tho lift the cabin this week...and begin to work on the frame..big job ahead !!... however I'll have to find some other rusted bolts and cut those to be able to lift the cabin....

I also want to sandblast all other parts related to engine , transmission and suspension....

btw, sorry for my bad englsh written, as you can see, it's clearly not my mother language !!

steering shaft. out? sure.
steer box out , sure.
pitman arm? is the only trick.
the book cover this,
mid shaft and bottom end (ujoint) is coupling that removes, now the box is free to come out once the ball joint on end is removed to tie rod top.
lift the body you mean right? off the frame.

the pitman arm leave it be at box side,, it has a a huge tapered shift there and is very hard to remove. leave it.
drop the end of pitman arm. ball./tie rod end.
then pull the box after remove the bolts on the center shaft coupling device. and bottom universal joint at box end.

good luck to you !

see page 3 here, covers it all. 1996 manual steering gear box OUT. chapter 3B2.
