CMP Failure - gymknee98 - 05-01-2017

98 Jimny
Will a failed CMP or wiring cause the engine to stop like the key was turned of? How can I test for this without a scope? I don't get any codes except 12

sure, engine cranks
CMP dead
all spark ends, and ecu also cuts all fuel injection, to be safe.
the secret is.
obd1, outside usa (ours is obd2) crank with diagnostic jumper in for 5 seconds, release key, see 12s mutate to cmp dead, or ckp.
keep key one for 1 full minute ,give ecu time to tell you what is bad.
usa, same deal, cept done with OBD2 scan tool in place.

lost all spark?

RE: CMP Failure - gymknee98 - 05-01-2017

It runs on test fuel so
1 : It must have spark?
2 : ECU must be ok?
does the no crash and burn safety feature just cut injection or Inj & Spark.
What about spark suppressor? where do I find that

ok it runs on test fuel !!
so is fuel pressure at spec.?
the ecu can not check that, so is first.
fuel filter not packed solid with junk.?

ill make a full list

TPS , TP pin not stuck at 4 to5 vdc, if the TP ground pin is open (cuT ) the TP pin goes over 4v and the goes to unflood mode crankking (zero injections)
The TP pin (aka. throttle angle) is around 0.5 to1vdc key on. (means idle to ECU)
got 4 injectors or 1
some TBI 1 injector engines have an injector resistor that can fail, open
the TPI injector can clog, all have 10micron sized screens, that can clog and end fueling. (flow ends)
same with MPI 4 injectors, all 4 have same screens but can never be seen like the TBI, .

the spark suppressor location varies, what car is this exactly.??
what car, where is it. got photos of engine, many cars now are hacked or engine swap ,etc...
the supressor wire cut the tachometer line goes dead, ,tachometer goes dead, and ecu cuts fuel.

RE: CMP Failure - fixkick - 05-01-2017

i have no 98 jimny documents, we dont have them here. for sure on 98s.
what engine is there.
what fuel system? TBI or MPI
Is this OBD1 car or EOBD? (EOBD is European OBD2)
do you have a schematic on car? engine EFI systems, be best to own that on any engine with EFI or must work blind.
suzuki uses many different spark system and EFI fueling, vast differences exist in 20 years span.

RE: CMP Failure - gymknee98 - 05-01-2017

G13B
MPI
Fuel pressure is 39 PSI and will hold that at least overnight.
TPS has 5 volts to it and between .5 up to 4.9 when throttle is manually adjusted.

RE: CMP Failure - fixkick - 06-05-2017

CMP on most are inside the distributor

if its twin ,cam, there are many G13s made ,lots. and some have CMP on rear of one cam. Look there for a CAM sensor.
the do you even have distributor, ?

engines stall for vast reasons,. over 50,.
1: lost 12vdc to EFI parts (fuel and spark) even the key switch fails. or loose fuse. that includes ECU and all sensors, and COPS, spark plugs , wires, all of it must be good or it will misfire. or even stall, (my guess is spark dies , unseen undriven, unheard.)
2: engine floods stalls. (floods ,misfires then slowly stalls and sticks of raw fuel)
3: engine goes lean and stalls, (slow usually)
4: bad spark parts.
5: bad engine, what if compression dropped all at once, like ours with cam belt drive love to do.

post a photo of your engine, so we can see it. ???

we have no G13s here, cept 1989 carb G13,,,, totally different then.,
yours is used on other cars Suzuki makes, Jimny and and others
do you have a body tag next to the , battery , suzuki tag that has full data on it like this.

what is your tag ?
what market code (24 is here)

Jimny SN413 is the Suz, name for it. (book names matching this car) and in the master parts lists and shows SN413V (VD is diesel)
there are 9 Jimny versions 3 are called Santana's made in Spain.
i looked at all Jimnys,
they have mostly 2 cam chain drive cam, and all have a CAM sensor. with cops. (no distrib)
there is one of the 9, that is single cam with belt drive, the odd duck
ive no idea what you have, some are listed as M13 engine and diesel too.
id need the body tag full data to see what market it is , built for. UK , Germany, and many others are all different

goodluck,. to you,..
sure wiring bad can cause this EFI is all about wiring, and power. and sensors. its electronic fuel injected, and has I think COPS, coil over plugs and no distributor. called DIS,
