92 vss code 24 - GFO4501 - 03-31-2017

Hello group,
I am a new member and owner of a 92 tracker, 8v, 5 speed manual, 4x4. It has had a rough life before I bought it and I have made several repairs and improvements.
I currently have a code 24 and have hit a snag on repairing it. I must say I am very impressed with the fixkick website and have learned more from it than any other source so far, including the factory service manual I purchased off e-bay. I have used the website as a guide to pull the speedometer and troubleshoot. Here's the kicker, it don't have a reed switch that I can find. I suspected trouble when I noticed there were no v1 and v2 terminal screws on the back. I shined a light in the holes and there was nothing for screws to thread into. After taking the face out and exposing the guts, I can't find the switch or any signs of solder. The magnetic cup is there on the needle and intact. As a matter of fact, everything else looks relatively clean and in good shape. The speedometer does make noise and the needle bounces at certain speeds, though. Any ideas? The website has a picture of a speedometer that appears to be identical to mine except it has the the two terminal screws. I would certainly appreciate any advice on this.
Thanks, Greg

Did you find the images starting with http://www.fixkick.com/sensors/speedo/Speedo_guts/html/image_1.html ?
Then, does that look like what you have?
I don't know why you are unable to replace the missing screws, but I bet that if you put up some images of what you have Fix Kick will nail the problem right away.

Wow, his reply was posted as I was still writing

RE: 92 vss code 24 - fetcher - 03-31-2017

Wild speculation, but Is it possible to mount that thing upside down?

RE: 92 vss code 24 - fixkick - 03-31-2017

once this meter makes noise ,,its doomed
finding a good head can be hard. 25 years later, best is buy them used cheap and mix parts to get one good one.

the words, speedometer ,assy, means the whole thing.
the words, body assy speedmeter is just the internal meter with odom, and vss. in the official Suzuki pages, above PDF
the latter meters , some are shared .

MOUNT UPSIDE DOWN
many SAMMI (jimny) cars , that engine blew up, and owner put in say 91 sidekick engine G16a /b and all EFI
found the speedo dead vss, sure no vss on carbs
but discovered the magnet still there and just used hot glue gun to anchor a new (easy to buy) reed switch near the mag. and it works at ANY ANGLE , even upside, down. the mag spins so, there is no way for the brain to know how you did it
only that the reed toggles.

RE: 92 vss code 24 - fixkick - 03-31-2017

upside down, no.
it only fits as the photos show, no variances with molded plastic, like that.
it has to fit and work, 2 things, its magnetically coupled, reed.

The needles twist off, mine did. Then maybe the assembly was replaced with the wrong one? Pictures from GFO4501 would be valuable.
