96 tracker blower speed problem - Mike1962 - 11-22-2016 Hi all, I'm having a problem with the blower switch on my 96 tracker, all of a sudden the switch slides to easily back and forth, I can get it to come on once in a while by holding it up or down while sliding it from low to high, I search around and have see some similar but none mention the switch moving from low to hìgh so freely.thanks RE: 96 tracker blower speed problem - fixkick - 11-23-2016 yes they love to do that. the switch assembly falls apart. i documented how I fixed mine with tie wraps. (find the lost spring and ball first) what other cars do is not important, its what yours did,,,, things can break in many ways, (modes) but yours is busted, that be sure. they also had push button version, (makes buying parts hard) if lucky only the switch unsnapped from the main carrier. but mine the plastic melted under hot sun, and warped, so I used tie wraps, to bind it down. and it will never fail again that way. You VIN code tells you which MFG plant the car was made. My 97 the switch had plastic snaps (Cami) no screws the plastic warped from sun and sprung, so (after contact clean and lube) I used tie wraps to secure it for 100 more years. LOL Do not remove switch internals in the car, go to a place you can find the parts that fly out. 1 spring , contact and a tiny ball bearing inside. Don't lose them. here. http://www.fixkick.com/AirCond/heater.html HS404 http://ecatalog.smpcorp.com/STD/#/vehicles the google search for lowest price, or shortest deliver time. sorry for long post but if you took yours apart, , its not trival, working this failure, with the cables fighting you. (self dissassembly) then dropped a spring and ball bearing (single ball) to the dash shelf below. i had to retrieve this. to rebuild the switch and then use tie wraps to cure this. the work to access this is in the FSM seen here. http://www.acksfaq.com/2016bp.php?urlname=http://www.acksfaq.com/HTML/trackerfsm.htm RE: 96 tracker blower speed problem - Mike1962 - 11-23-2016 Thanks for the link to the manual |
